"Pilates is complete coordination of body, mind and spirit"
- Joseph Pilates
The Pilates Method is an exercise method that you look forward to. It engages you, leaving you refreshed and alert with a feeling of physical and mental well-being.

Developed in the 1920's by legendary physical trainer Joseph H. Pilates, The Pilates Method is an exercise system which focuses on increasing flexibility and strength to build more defined, longer, leaner muscles. The Pilates Method consists of over 500 specific exercises and can be done on a mat or using specialized equipment designed to develop the body with balance. Each exercise emphasizes precision of movement, concentration, proper form and control.
Regular practice of Pilates produces dramatic improvements in posture, body alignment, core strength, flexibility, muscular strength and endurance and balance and co-ordination. Pilates develops the body uniformly, restores physical vitality, invigorates the mind, and elevates the spirit. By targeting the deep core musculature referred to as the "inner unit", (the deep abdominals, pelvic floor and back muscles), Pilates increases stability of the pelvis, spine and shoulder girdle. Through the work, the abdomen, gluteals and lower back are supported and strengthened, enabling the body to move more freely and efficiently. Because your mind is engaged with your body to perform the movement correctly, you experience a new awareness of muscle function and control.
Pilates is an exercise method that can be done by everyone from those who have just completed physiotherapy to Seniors to the elite athlete who wants to gain that competitive edge for sport.
