When I came to Ross Pilates I had been dealing with back pain for 5 years and it had been increasing due to more office work and stress. I found myself sitting for long periods where before I had always been healthy and active. My goal was to reduce pain and increase my flexibility/mobility. I was experiencing a lot of back pain and wanted to decrease the risk of it getting even worse.
I couldn’t reach down to touch my toes or even cross my legs without experiencing pain. When I had a flare up, I would be out for 2 weeks before I felt better. At first, I tried to just jump in to a regular workout program and it actually made it worse. After that I knew I had to fix the source of the problem and really get to the root of it. I needed a preliminary program that could work on core strength and any muscle imbalances. One day, despite still having some self doubt, I decided to peel myself off the carpet and make a change because at 27 years old I could barely walk.
Fast forward just over a year now and I no longer feel inadequate. I feel I can do so much more now. Pain is no longer a stressor on top of other stressors in my life. I’m looking forward to playing baseball again!
Moving forward, Pilates will always be a part of my fitness program. Danielle, (my Pilates teacher), is always progressing me to be able to do more challenging Pilates exercises, cardio and weight training and I am no longer afraid to do those things. What I like most about Ross Pilates is number one the knowledge of the instructors. They seem to have an answer for almost all of my questions and if I have pain they can usually get to the bottom of it. Secondly, it’s the comfortable private environment so unlike a busy gym.
For someone who is considering going to Ross Pilates I would say try it. It worked for me and I had tried pretty much everything. At the end of the day you come away with knowledge and education on how to reduce pain and move pain free!
