Janice’s Story

“What I have noticed are huge improvements in my strength and muscle tone, and I have recently received a number of compliments on my improved posture.”

About 3 years ago I became aware of some impaired muscle function creating imbalances in my body, I had ceased to use some muscles and relied totally on others. This was having an effect on my balance, my feet and how I walked. I was also rapidly losing muscle tone and core strength.

My goal was to find an exercise program that would allow me to build and tone muscles and improve my overall core strength. It had to be something that I could commit to and enjoy doing.

I had a gym membership but went intermittently. I also had a personal trainer for over a year, while it was a good experience, I did not achieve the results I had hoped to.  I still felt my level of fitness and my strength was declining.  I saw an advert pop up from Ross Pilates and Conditioning, and I remembered having attended a workshop that Debbie had offered on weight training for women about 20 years ago. I remembered that she had a positive and common sense approach to women’s fitness.  It was then I decided to give Ross Pilates and Conditioning a call.

Even though I was very afraid of feeling humiliated due to my lack of core strength, the initial one-on-one sessions put me at ease immediately and I felt that I had the assistance I needed to achieve my goals.

I had two injuries in the last two years; a pinched nerve in my neck as well as a pinched sciatic nerve on my left side. Both were debilitating for a 3-4 month period and I knew I couldn’t risk this again. With Pilates, I can work hard and safely. The exercises and equipment are so muscle specific that it is hard to cheat and let my dominant muscles take over. Also, since the class sizes are small, instructor supervision and correction is immediate.

What I have noticed are huge improvements in my strength and muscle tone, and I have recently received a number of compliments on my improved posture. I like all of the exercise options and the wide variety of equipment and classes. All of the instructors are knowledgeable and supportive and have great senses of humour.  I would describe Ross Pilates and Conditioning as inclusive, friendly, professional, and cutting edge.

My advice to someone thinking about coming to Pilates would be to commit to attending regularly and to seek out a variety of classes that offer a challenge to them. You will be in good hands at Ross Pilates and Conditioning. The instructors can be counted on to assist you towards achieving your goals!
